Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complex medical system that was developed by the Ancient Chinese thousands of years ago. It is used to define ones aetiology and to diagnose and treat medical conditions and imbalances in the body. TCM combines the use of Acupuncture (needling), Cupping, Acupressure, Moxibustion and Herbal Medicine. It is used to prevent illness and boost wellbeing and is practised all over the world and can support you with all of your health and wellbeing needs.
In its simplest form Traditional Chinese Medicine can be reduced to Yin and Yang (opposite energies) which are fundamental in defining common opposing energies such as those found in night and day, summer and winter, feminine and masculine etc. When either Yin or Yang are in deficient or excess states the body becomes imbalanced and presents itself with symptoms of dis-ease. However, when Yin and Yang energies are in balance, you feel refreshed, energised and balanced.
The body has 12 Meridians (channels) that correspond to the relevant organs and systems of the body and these are the:
- Lung Channel
- Large Intestine Channel
- Stomach Channel
- Spleen Channel
- Heart Channel
- Small Intestine Channel
- Bladder Channel
- Kidney Channel
- Pericardium Channel
- Triple Burner
- Gallbladder Channel
- Liver Channel
When the body becomes imbalanced either one or more of these channels can be affected at the same time.
The bodies life force (Qi or Chi) must be flowing freely throughout the body and its meridian (channels) at all times. When there is a blockage (stagnation) this Qi energy is interrupted and the body begins to display signs of illness or dis-ease. Some signs of Qi stagnation include:
- Fatigue
- Pain
- Insomnia
- Poor circulation
